World Traveler mobile phone travel platform surpasses 5 million user mark

WARSAW. MARCH 30, 2011. World Traveler, Polish applications innovator Psiloc’s popular mobile travel platform, has gained more than five million users in less than two years on the market—making it the fastest growing service of its kind.

"Five million users is an excellent result," Psiloc founder and CEO said. "We have worked hard to bring services to the market which are useful for both leisure and business travelers—and we hope that we have helped reduce stress associated with travel.

World Traveler offers a wide range of travel-related services through a user’s mobile phone, including Travel Plan, which synchronizes these services so that a traveler can easily keep on top of his schedule during his trip, as well as plug-ins with features ranging from weather forecasts to currency conversions to inexpensive and fast internet connections at both hotels and airports through top U.S. Wifi hotspot provider iPass.

Such services and plug-ins are offered on both a free and premium basis, with premium/paid-for plug-ins including Flight Assistant, which enables a user to check flight schedule information while also receiving "flight alerts" in the event of schedule changes or late or canceled flights. Likewise, the aforementioned new service, the iPass powered WiFi Traveler, also falls into the premium category while offering access to 260,000 WiFi hotspots world-wide at markedly less rates than what is typically available in the form of mobile roaming fees.

More than 700,000 people use World Traveler on a daily basis, with the majority of users coming from China, India, Russia, Great Britain and Saudi Arabia. Close behind are users from Italy, Germany and Poland. World Traveler is used primarily by Nokia mobile phone owners, with some five million users taking advantage of Nokia’s new E7 model. World Traveler users can also be found among owners of the luxury Vertu-Constellation Quest phones, with the platform coming pre-installed on the device together with other services.

BARCELONA. FEB. 14, 2011 – Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc and the globe’s most recognized insurer, AXA, officially co-released the AXA Travel Insurance plug-in through Psiloc’s World Traveler mobile travel platform, enabling Nokia mobile phone users around the globe to book travel insurance both before and during their trips, the companies announced today from the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

“This is the future happening now,” Marek Filipiak, founder and president of Psiloc, said. “Travelers will be able to insure and get assistance during their trip through AXA via the World Traveler platform on their Nokia phone. Considering the partners involved this definitely can be considered a first in mobile.”

Filipiak pointed to four factors that should make the AXA Travel Insurance plug-in a game changer. First, since its release in June 2009, World Traveler has already gained more than five million users, at an approximate rate of 12,000 users a day. Second, AXA is considered the No. 1 brand in the insurance industry, with a reputation that few insurance companies can hope to match in terms of confidence and coverage.

Third, travel assistance services will be carried out by Inter Partner Assistance Poland, member of the AXA Assistance Group, a world-leading assistance provider, trusted for quality and innovation.

Fourth, World Traveler is currently installed on select Nokia smartphones, including top, flagship models such as the E7, C7 and N8—and Nokia is the leading mobile phone producer and distributor in the world.

“Simply put, this is evidence that mobile technology will continue to dramatically change our everyday life,” Filipiak added.

Adam Dwulecki, member of Board at AXA agreed, pointing out that the AXA-Psiloc cooperation opens up an entirely new distribution channel in travel insurance.

Travelers will be able to buy insurance via mobile for as low as USD 14 for three-days medical expenses and assistance, with insurance plans divided by levels of coverage and types, ranging from medical expenses and assistance to lost luggage. New features in World Traveler - Travel Plan

SEPT. 14, 2010—Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc announced the release of Travel Plan, a new plug-in that enables user to not only plan their vacation or business trip, but which also automatically synchronizes plans with the telephones calendar and is fully integrated with other key plug-ins on the company’s popular World Traveler platform, such as the Weather plug-in and Flight Assistant.

"This is a piece of the puzzle that had long been missing in the World Traveler platform," Marek Filipiak, president and founder of Psiloc said. "We believe Travel Plan will become one of those must-use plug-ins that is not only popular in its own right, but which becomes a separate driver in the popularity of World Traveler."

Travel Plan enables users to key dates, times and subject matter into a simple, intuitive planner, which is then automatically synchronized with phone’s calendar. The user can also set alarms as reminders for events throughout his/her trip. Other information, such as flight information from World Traveler’s Flight Assistant plug-in, can also be synchronized with the Travel Plan planner and phone calendar as well.

Filipiak called the Travel Plan plug-in indicative of World Traveler’s development, with the alert feature similar to that offered by the premium Flight Assistant plug-in, which not only enables flight searches and status updates, but which also can be set to automatically send alerts to users in the event of a flight status change or cancellation.

"The goal here is to help a traveler get organized, stay organized and reduce stress," Filipiak said. VoxTrack Enterprise 1.3

WARSAW. SEPTEMBER 8—Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc today announced the release of the latest version of VoxTrack Enterprise 1.3, which allows companies to record, track and archive all incoming and outgoing mobile phone calls, as well as media transmissions such as SMS and MMS messages.

“What a lot of people don’t know is that this technology has become a must for European companies, with a recent European Union directive calling for companies to store the tracking of such communications for up to two years for legal purposes,” Marek Filipiak, founder and president of Psiloc said. “The added benefits here are that VoxTrack Enterprise allows you to monitor employees, ensure adherence to company standards and also ensure accuracy with regard to deals and negotiations conducted over the phone.”

WARSAW. JULY 30, 2010—The popular mobile travel platform, World Traveler, now comes pre-installed Nokia’s newly-released Nokia mobile device, the Nokia C6, Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc announced today.

“This is exciting news for Psiloc, as not only we see World Traveler pre-installed on Nokia’s newest device, but also one of Psiloc’s most popular applications, Font Magnifier, which automatically enlarges or decreases phone fonts for a user’s convenience,” Marek Filipiak, president and founder of Psiloc said. World Traveler, Psiloc’s popular mobile travel platform, has gained more than two million active users since arriving on the market in June 2009. World Traveler works on a “freemium” model, which includes both free plug-ins, such as a five-day weather forecast, currency converter and world clock, as well as premium plug-ins that are available on a paid-subscription basis, such as Flight Assistant and Travel Safe.

Flight Assistant enables users to check alternative flights and get alerts in the event of changes to a flight schedule. Hotelzon, another World Traveler plug-in, allows a user to search for available hotels and book rooms through the mobile phone. Travel Safe is a virtual vault for sensitive information, such as passport, or credit card numbers.

The new Nokia C6 offers a full QWERTY keyboard, as well as the ability to get work e-mails in real time through Mail for Exchange and IBM® Lotus Notes® Traveler. It also includes chat options and the possibility to keep up to ten personal accounts on the phone, according to the Nokia website.

The addition of World Traveler to this new device promises to significantly extend the Polish company’s already formidable reach.

MARCH 16—Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc announced today that it has added the highly acclaimed Connect application to its flagship mobile travel platform, World Traveler, which is currently pre-installed on select Nokia mobile devices. "Connect works by enabling your phone to shift automatically between network access points, according to your preferences," Marek Filipiak, president and founder of Psiloc said. "This is perfect for everyone from the traveler to the commuting business person who would like to avoid the hassle of setting access points manually each time internet use is necessary."

New features in World Traveler - Hotelzon

WARSAW. FEBRUARY 19—Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc announced today that is has added a complete hotel bookings plug-in to its flagship travel platform, World Traveler, thanks to a newly-signed agreement with Finnish mobile hotel bookings leader Hotelzon.

"The new hotel bookings plug-in, which will be marketed under the Hotelzon name, will allow you to search for, find availability and book a hotel stay either by location, hotel category or length of stay—all through your mobile phone," Marek Filipiak, Psiloc founder and president, said. But for the traveler who suddenly gets stuck with nowhere to stay, the search option can be switched to location by GPS, which then automatically checks all hotels in the immediate vicinity. "We consider this a key step forward in the development of our World Traveler product," he added.

The Hotelzon bookings plug-in should make waves in what Filipiak noted to be a cutting-edge and highly-competitive industry that is bringing new products to the traveler on an almost daily basis. The Hotelzon plug-in offers a new twist, however, by offering a "GPS-radius" feature, which allows a traveler to scan his immediate area for available hotels—even if he does not happen to know his exact location.

"Simply switch into the plug-in and set your radius for five or 10 or 15 kilometers," Filipiak said. "Then let World Traveler's Hotelzon plug-in do the rest and find an available hotel that matches your standards."

Filipiak also emphasized the reach of the new plug-in. Finnish Hotelzon is ranked as the biggest mobile hotel stay provider, with access to booking more than 90,000 hotels world-wide through their mobile phone application.

Likewise, the Finnish company has already proven to be a hit with the business world. With a corporate client base exceeding 15,000 corporate organizations, Hotelzon has more than 100,000 mobile users.

The addition of Hotelzon's coverage to Psiloc's reach through the World Traveler platform should be a game changer, according to Hotelzon CEO Jani Kaskinen.

"With the current economic climate, the importance of smart travel policies, cost control, security and reporting tools cannot be more vital," Kaskinen said. "This application is set to transform the way in which business travel is booked."

This impact should be magnified, as Psiloc is one of the world's leading providers of smartphone software solutions. World Traveler hits one milion users !!!

WARSAW. DECEMBER 21 – Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc announced today that it has achieved a company milestone with its World Traveler mobile platform, an application package for the traveler, which grabbed its millionth user late last week.

"One million is quite a satisfying figure when it comes to users in the mobile applications game," Marek Filipiak, Psiloc president and founder, said. "We knew World Traveler would be a hit with travelers, but it comes as a pleasant surprise to see so much hard work appreciated so soon by the market."

Filipiak pointed out that World Traveler was only released to the market in June of this year (2009). The "freemium" platform includes a number of basic, free services, such as a world clock and currency converter. As World Traveler has continued to develop, these services have been beefed up by premium services, such as Flight Assistant, which allows a traveler to check the availability of alternate flights through his/her mobile phone-while also setting up the phone to receive status alerts of flight changes in real time.

The combination has proven to be a winner for Psiloc, and the user numbers just keep climbing. According to company statistics, in the time that it takes most journalists to read this press release, the company will have gained approximately 1,000 new users.

Meanwhile, Filipiak said the company expects these figures to increase several-fold.

"At this point, I don’t want to get too deep into company strategy, but in a sense we are still in the first phase of World Traveler," he said. "Strategic plans that we have already set in motion should increase the platform’s visibility by a multiple of four."

Filipiak did point out that the company has gone to great lengths to tailor the "freemium" model to customer needs-while still retaining a working business model for the company. Part of this has come in smart, hassle free packaging. Flight Master, a pre-installed plug-in package that includes both the company's new Flight Assistant utility, as well as the premium Travel Safe plug-in (a virtual mobile vault for sensitive personal information, such as credit card details, as well as passport or driver’s license numbers) has definitely been a driver behind the platform’s growing user base.

WARSAW. SEPTEMBER 29, 2009—Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc today announced the release of Flight Assistant, a downloadable plug-in that enables mobile phone users to not only search and check the status of flights, but to also be alerted to flight status changes automatically.

"We took a look at the market and saw that there was a real need for such an application," Marek Filipiak, Psiloc founder and president, said. "The frequent flier is going to find himself in situations where his flight has been changed or delayed—it’s the nature of the beast—but being informed of such changes real time can really take the stress out of a business trip.

A prototype version of the Flight Assistant plug-in was debuted to much fanfare under the “Flights” moniker at the Nokia World ’09 conference last month. The new upgrade will now be rebranded and marketed as Flight Assistant, a plug-in for Psiloc’s already popular World Traveler platform for mobile phones.

The World Traveler application, which already has some 500,000 users world-wide—and which is now seeing some 5,000 new users daily—includes features that allow users to check the time in multiple time zones, as well as the weather and currency exchange rates for a user’s destination.

The Nokia ’09 conference was not the first time Psiloc, known for Total irRemote (which allows users to turn their smartphones into universal television remote controls), has caught the attention of the international mobile market. The company first grabbed headlines in 2002 when Psiloc’s Arabic localization application, which was specifically developed for Nokia Communicators, was accepted as the new standard in the Arab world.

Psiloc hopes to continue this trend, and Filipiak noted that Flight Assistant will soon be packaged with new, premium plug-ins, such as the ability to forward travel alerts via SMS to a third party of a user’s choice.

This would be a natural addition to Flight Assistant, being both necessary and economical for the traveler, Filipiak added.

"We’ve realized that there is also the need to send news of flight status changes to loved ones or fellow travelers—thus the automatic SMS feature, which is coming soon," he said.

The Flight Assistant plug-in, available as a premium download for €5.95 for a 30-day subscription, or €29.95 for a one-year subscription, is currently available for a limited time on a free-trial basis.

New features in World Traveler - Flights

Polish mobile solutions innovator Psiloc launched the latest edition of the company’s mobile travel-aid application, World Traveler, which now includes FLIGHTS, a premium plug in that alerts users to flight delays or status changes in real time.

"FLIGHTS lets you search by flight number or by location (city, airport or country) and allows you to save search results, check the status of your flights anytime and be automatically alerted to changes in real-time (standard mobile Internet connections will apply)," World Traveler Product Director Wojciech Nowanski said Monday.

"This is a premium air travel utility plug-in that makes it possible to select, track and be alerted to flights from within the World Traveler application," Nowanski added.

The new plug in is another step forward for Psiloc’s World Traveler, whose goal is to improve travel efficiency through the FLIGHTS application’s simple yet powerful flight search, tracking and alert capabilities.

Psiloc’s CEO Marek Filipiak added that the new application is geared to make life more convenient for the modern, savvy traveler-and that its simplicity and ease of use is an indication of just where the company is headed.

"World Traveler introduces a new concept of mobile services for anyone who travels," Filipiak said. "It will provide both free and billable, travel-related content and plug-in services."

A trial version of the new FLIGHTS plug-in can be downloaded for free and from the company’s online shop. Following the trial period, the premium plug-in is available for €5.99 for 30 days or €29.95 for one year.

Inaugural Jan Lukasiewicz Award

The ceremony took place during the XXIV Autumn Meeting of the Polish Information Processing Society, held in the scenic Beskidy Mountain town of Wisla, Poland. Over 70 Polish companies involved in information research and development were reviewed by the PIPS and only five were nominated for the Jan Lukasiewicz Award. The three Laureates chosen by the award panel were Psiloc, Comarch and Rodan Systems. Psiloc is honored to receive this first Jan Lukasiewicz award, as it confirms our significant contribution to the development of the information society.

It is an absolutely indispensable Symbian application that keeps your mobile phone automatically updated with its address book, calendar information and to-do items stored on the personal computer. From January 9th 2006 they can download a great mobile application which facilitates the use of Omnix service. This application, called Omnix Magazine, downloads data without the users’ participation. Access to collected data is faster, easier and more comfortable.

The Omnix Magazine application, prepared by Psiloc, is designed for Symbian based smartphones only. Downloaded application adds a new icon to the smartphone menu. When the user opens it, he/she has immediate access to world, local and sport news, actual currency rates or weather forecasts. The content depends on the version which can be Standard or Business. Nokia finally unveiled its long awaited improved successor of the 9300 Comunicator. Nokia 9300i adds Wi-Fi connectivity to the EDGE support, Bluetooth, high-resolution display and super-size thumb-board of the 9300.

Extended Recorder for Nokia Communicators has been updated to version 1.62. A problem with the application installation and uninstllation has been removed.

Wireless Presenter for Series 60, an excellent tool to control your PC at a distance, has been updated to version 1.02. The application is now compatible with Nokia 6260 and a few minor errors were fixed.

On the second day of the Smartphone Show Psiloc announced that the recently launched products: DRM Common Solutions, Wireless Presenter, HotSpotFinder and Mobile Mouse are compatible with completely new Symbian v9.1 OS.

Psiloc DRM Common Solutions is a set of custom-fit components enabling secure and effective distribution of digital content to smartphone users worldwide. They are directed to developers, content providers and GSM operators.

Three new Psiloc applications increase the smartphones productivity. The Wireless Presenter allows managing a Power Point presentation and other Windows-based software with a smartphone at a distance of a Bluetooth beam. It extends the possibilities of Psiloc Mobile Mouse by transforming a smartphone into a Bluetooth computer mouse. Both solutions do not need any additional software installed on the PC.

HotSpotFinder gives an advantage to people on the go. It finds Wireless LAN hotspots automatically and allows connecting to the internet any time it is necessary.

All new applications work on the recently announced, most expected Nokia Series60 3.0 device with Symbian 9 OS but also on the older ones proving the innovative thinking ability of Psiloc programmers.

Psiloc decided to enable free access to the applications designed for Psion PDAs. From now on every user can download PSIloc+, plOpen, plBeam, plFEP, GPRS and various localizations for free. To do so the owners of Psion devices are only required to enter their unique ID at the special website.

The applications made for Psion PDAs provided the grounds for the global success of Psiloc. Psion devices work under Epoc operation system on which today’s Symbian OS is based. With in-depth knowledge of Epoc OS Psiloc professional programmers were able to design applications for Symbian-based Nokia Communicator 9210 shortly after its launch.

Psiloc will no longer be selling software for Psion PDAs and there will be no support for the solutions mentioned above.

Psiloc announced that the company has changed its R&D developers structure and moved to a new office building in Warsaw.

Psiloc applications for Nokia 7710

Psiloc published today the first application for the new Nokia 7710. The Screen Capture application known from Series 60 and UIQ platforms.

Using that application in the device, the end user can capture screen contents anytime using a defined key combination. Pictures are saved in a folder accessible via the Images application. Screen Capture works in the background and has no influence on any other running applications. The trial version of the application has the Psiloc copyright stamp on the screen. The full registered version of the application is free of the copyright stamp.

Psiloc took over Windows Mobile developer MobilOK

Psiloc Mobile Solutions announced today the takeover of the Polish Windows Mobile developer company MobilOK to offer full mobile solutions both in Symbian and in Windows Mobile for GSM Operators, Content Providers, Business Enterprise customers and End Users.

Psiloc became the owner of the MobilOK Intellectual Property Rights and its application offering broadened to Windows Mobile Smartphone applications: World Traveller and TinyGPS.

Those two applications were based on Psiloc products: World Traveller and MiniGPS. In April 2004 Psiloc gave MobilOK the exclusive rights to use the ideas of Psiloc Symbian applications and to port them to Windows Mobile Smartphones.

Extended Profiles

Today Psiloc launched a new application for the Series 80 called Extended Profiles and extends the functionality of the Series80 smartphones with the user's profile scheduling. Extended Profiles enables the end user to automatically switch the profiles of the smartphone. The user may simply select the time, required profile and weekday (daily, working days, weekend etc.) - Extended Profiles will do the rest: switch and activate the profile automatically at the scheduled time and come back from the scheduled to the initial profile. The end user may edit the main profiles in the phone and change the profiles settings that are not editable using the standard "Profiles" application. The end user may edit all accessible profiles in the phone except from the "offline" profile. It is also impossible to set the schedule to and from offline profile.
