Non-standard Phones Usage
The smartphone devices of today are being packed with numerous different purpose electronic modules. It would be unwise not to try to push them to their limits, and develop completely new applications other than their main purpose as a telephone. Since "Innovation is our core competency", here at Psiloc we have a long running history of developing out-of-the-box solutions:
Mobile Mouse iis an application that makes use of the fact that nearly all smartphone devices are equipped with a camera. Using this knowledge, the mouse pointing device can be moved around the screen with the use of a smartphone. This is achieved by the complex real time mathematical calculation of image histograms from the camera. Alternatively the PC mouse pointer can be controlled by using a smartphone's softkeys. This has been accomplished using Bluetooth programming for the smartphone - PC communication and advanced low level programming of the HID (Human Interface Device).
BabyCare is an application that can be especially useful to those with young children. This feature packed application can be started up on a device and left in the sleeping child's vicinity. While turned on, the application mutes all incoming calls and messages and redirects all calls to an alternative phone number. It also "listens" to the sounds in its vicinity, and initiates a voice call to the parent's predefined number in case the child wakes up, allowing the parent to check-up on the child and even talking to them, in order to calm them down. This closes the physical gap between the parent and the child.
With the accelerometers being taken for granted in any modern smartphones, Psiloc has developed a Wattery ScreenSaver compatible with certain Nokia devices. Wattery ScreenSaver is an eye candy application, that when chosen for the S60 as a screen saver, displays the battery level on the device as water behind the main screen. When the device is tilted the water level tilts appropriately with the changed orientation of the device, , it even splashes around the screen when the device is shaken!
Psiloc is very proud of the irRemote application, which is such a technological breakthrough, some knowledgeable people even said it couldn't be done! Once installed, this application turns a smartphone device into a universal remote control. With such a truly universal remote, switching the channels on a TV in a pub, opening the garage door, turning down the AC or controlling the stereo system can all be done with one device - YOUR smartphone! Being one of the most frequently downloaded applications (over 3000000 unique downloads), and winning the S60 community Award against the assurances of both Nokia and Symbian that such a solution is technically not possible, makes us truly proud and proves Psiloc's reality of a deeper quest into the non-standard usage of smartphones.
